Here are our top 5 tips for keeping your money safe whilst you’re exploring the world.
Carry as little cash as possible
Only ever carry as much cash as is absolutely necessary. Wherever possible you should use credit cards and travellers cheques instead of cash.
Don’t draw attention to yourself
Avoid drawing attention to yourself by dressing conservatively and avoiding carrying expensive equipment or gadgets around with you, especially if you’re travelling in a poor area. When you’re paying do so discreetly and don’t take out large rolls of notes or bags of coins.
Keep money close to your body
Don’t keep your money in a bag that could easily be snatched from you, instead carry it close to your body in a money belt under your clothes.
Don’t keep all your money in one place
If you keep all of your money in one place then you run the risk of losing everything in one go. Split your money up and then store it in several different places.
Never leave valuables in your hostel or hotel
If you’ve bought valuables like cash, camera, mobile phone or a laptop with you never leave them unattended in public places or in your hotel or hostel room. If there is a safe available then always use it.
