We often hear so many different excuses not to travel – lack of money, not enough time, too much going on at home – that we rarely look at the advantage of travelling. It can benefit you in so many different ways.

Here we’re going to show you why throwing on a backpack and hitting the road is good for you.

To learn

When we say to learn, you probably think we mean getting to know a new place better; understanding its history. Which is true, but it’s also the perfect opportunity to learn about yourself too. Every day is a school day when you’re travelling, and in so many different ways. You’ll pick up snippets of new languages, try new foods, better understand new customs – you’ll be able to head home knowing so much more than you did when you left.

Time out

Working life can quickly wear you down and you may find that two years have passed in the same job. Nothing’s changed. You turn in, work, head home and then go to sleep. Week in, week out. It can all become a little stressful, so why not get away from it all? You can forget work and concentrate on having fun.

And then, when you return, you’ll feel rejuvenated and ready to take on whatever the world throws at you.

Challenge yourself

Many people don’t bother travelling simply through fear. The thought of heading somewhere that they don’t know the language or culture can be daunting. But heading out of your comfort zone can be beneficial. You’ll become more confident as a result and you’ll be less inclined to shy away when confronted by a challenge in the future.

Your bucket list

We all have some sort of bucket list. Whether it’s down on paper or in your head. And most of the time, bucket lists involve doing things all over the world. Travelling will enable you to do at least some of the items on your list – like visit the Colosseum, or go for a night out in Johannesburg!
