That’s why we’ve decided to list 5 of the best things to do within your first week here. Remember though, there’s plenty to do and see here in Jo’burg. Far too much to list here. This is just a quick reference point to get you started.

Carlton centre – Johannesburg is a stunning city. But getting a good view of it isn’t easy. To see the beautiful scenery it has to offer, you might want to climb to the top of the Carlton Centre. It’s the tallest building in the city, so reach the top grab a coffee and take in the view.

The Apartheid Museum – To truly understand the city and its history you’re going to want to pay a sobering visit to the Apartheid Museum. It illustrates the apartheid and 20th century South Africa  – and there are plenty of important lessons to learn inside.

Zoo lake – After a little bit of sightseeing you’re going to become a little hungry. Head to Zoo Lake to enjoy a nice picnic. View the dams, enjoy a canoe ride or boat hire and feed the ducks. It’s the ideal place to relax from the buzz of the city.

The Cradle of Humankind – Okay, this technically isn’t in Johannesburg, but it’s the best place to go when you want a break from the city all together. Plus, it’s one of the most important historical finds on earth. Worth a little of your time.

It’s produced some of the world’s oldest hominin fossils ever found, some of which date back 3.5 million years ago.

Flea markets – The whole city is full of wonderful flea markets where you can pick up souvenirs of your travels. Fabrics, toys, statues – you’ll be able to find all sorts here. And once you’ve entered, you won’t want to leave!
